NEW DEVELOPMENT ON MAGAZINE STREET

By the end of 2013 construction is expected to begin on a three-story, residential-retail project to be built on a 13,600-square-foot empty lot at 2802 Magazine St. in near the Irish Channel. Developer earned Historic District Landmarks Commission clearance in October to build the mixed-use project. The project would take about 12 to 14 months to complete. The building will be near the corner of Magazine Street and Washington Avenue between Coquette restaurant and Sake Café. It will include about 4,500-square-feet of ground floor retail space for two tenants.

Developers will set up a condo regime for seven units on the second and third floors but initially rent them out as apartments. No decision has been made as to when, or if, developers will sell the units. Six of the seven units will be 1,400 square feet, and a penthouse will be closer to 2,000. All units will have two bedrooms. No prices have been listed for the residential units.
